Accent Walls-A Controversial Subject
Accent walls have certainly enjoyed their heyday but are they really over? I have heard bloggers and designers alike scoff at the idea of painting or wallpapering an accent wall but I have to respectfully disagree on this one...if done correctly, I believe it can add personality to a room without overwhelming the space. Photo via www.HGTV.ca I think because it's been down so wrong for so long it's a tired subject. Creating a focal (or in this case accent) wall in a space aligns with practiced design principles. The photo above from a bachelor bedroom by Natalie Chong shows a dark headboard accent wall-this may be a common practice but imagine the space without the accent-it would be much less interesting. If you're painting an accent wall, it should be on a single plane. Example: notice the soffit above is left untouched.
